Just went into my car to get something, and noticed that the battery light on the dash was flickering on and off.. (one click ignition) and the clock and interior light was going on and off like I was turning the key one click, along with a ticking sound which sounded like a relay. I started the car to see if it would stop, and took the key out of the ignition, and it just wont turn the ignition of at all! (like its on 2 clicks). Any suggestions? My car is 03, multiplexed 1.4 8v. Thanks in advance :S

charge the battery, see if that cures it (check for any lights etc that have been left on, boot light?) if not check the alternator output voltage to see if its charging the battery.

The car still starts though, would it not start if the battery was flat? or do you mean it could be going flat? and how do i check the alternator output voltage? Thanks for your help

It could be going flat, to check the alternator use a multimeter on the battery when the engine is running. Iirc you should get about 14 volts if the alternator is working properly

I have an LED cluster tapped into my interior light but with a separate switch as well. If I leave the switch turned on and take the key out it does exactly the same. The lights start to dim out but then brighten back up again and continue doing that until I turn the switch off.
Do you have anything wired into your interior light or done any wiring lately?

nope nothing else is wired into the interior light, and the only wiring i've done lately is fit a new headunit :S today i'm going to try charging the battery, and if that doesnt fix it, i guess i'll be straight back here!

This happened to me. Turned out to be the headunit wiring. Instead of swapping the yellow and red wires someone had put a wire in to join the red and yellow so it was always live! Battery light was on constant and my key fob wouldnt work.
Check the wiring on your stereo so it doesnt run your battery down
