Hi there, i'm new to this forum but hoping someone can give me some advice.
I bought an 05 reg 206 1.4 HDI from ebay Car was running great and amazing on fuel but I've noticed the gear box makes grinding noises in the first 2 gears when the car is slowing down while in gear.
This has been going on for a while and now the clutch is also on it's way out, revs go up fast but accelarates slow. I'm tempted just to get the clutch changed and new gearbox oil added, It's likely the grinding noise will still happen though and i'll end up having to pay again to have the gearbox taken out and changed to stop the grinding noise. Any suggestions as I believe it is the gearbox bearings making the noise and it probably just needs replacing.
It's done 82,000 and 6 years old
Many thanks

Sounds like the clutch is slipping so will probably need a new clutch but what i would recommend (its happened to me before), while the gearbox is out get it sent to a reputable gearbox repair centre and they will strip it down and refurbish it but they will only do what needs doing.
I had the same problem in my old saxo all the bearings and seals had gone in my gearbox so would grind while setting off, got it back and they had only changed the bearings and seals because that was all that was broken.

Mine does the same. it's the clutch on the way out. unfortunatly at this point you just have no idea as to when it will eventually give up.
