My 98,000 mile GTI has a ticking noise across the whole rev range. I wouldnt call it loud but its certainly there. I'm new to Peugeot petrol engines but far from new to motor repair and and can only be on of a few things:
Hydraulic lifters/Tappets have partial blockage in one or more 'buckets',
Incorrect timing,
Failing exhaust manifold gasket,
Worn injectors,
Snapped valve spring.
While i appreciate with the age of the vehicle it really could be any of the above, I was hoping to know if any were a common occurance on a GTI lump approaching 100k?
Kind Regards,
Jim

my 2000 gti ticks when revved, sounds like its coming from the back left of the engine.
havent tried anything yet, but am going to try engine flush and oil change and see how it is after.
