Hi guys, Im a newbie to this site, in need of some help and advice, which I will be most grateful for.

I bought a 206cc 51 plate 1.6 in the summer. I've been fairly happy with it but recently I've noticed when the lights are on, they flicker. It happens every time they are on - back and front, enough for me to notice as I'm driving.

Also, all the dials in my instrument cluster keep 'going wild', no warning lights come on, just the needles dancing around. It doesn't matter whether i'm driving fast or slow. It doesn't always happen on every journey but it is more often than not!

I've checked the battery terminals, they're tight. No hanging cables or wires that i can see.

Please help someone Smile

Common one to play up is on the gearbox. But check all the cables you can see leading from places like the engine connecting to the chassis of the car.

Also a chance it could be the alternator, but check all the earths first.

Check the negative terminal coming off of the battery, remove it completely, make sure it isn't frayed and damaged and that it is well greased, then replace it. If that doesn't fix it, your battery is dying, get it changed before the winter really sets in and kills it completely. I had exactly the same problem, and that was my solution.

Hey all. Sorted out the problem. It was a dodgy alternator. All fixed now.
