the intermediate shaft will not move even though I have moved the securing bolts 90 degrees (out of the way) - simply pulling does not work, nor does using a club hammer and bolster or pry bar together with another person pulling on the outer part of the shaft simultaneously!
Any ideas, anyone?

...THERE IS A BALL BEARING JAMMED ROCK SOLID in a gap between the outside edge of 'the (intermediate) race' and the thicker section of the inner drive shaft edge, it is pressed up against the bearing race mounting hole and it appears to have gouged out its own channel on that extreme inner edge of that mounting bracket.
Ball bearing locked by:
'the (intermediate) race' @ 2 O'Clock
the inner edge/SURFACE of bearing race mounting hole @ 6 O'Clock
the thicker section of the inner drive shaft edge @ 10 O'Clock
I.E. every 120 degrees (divided into thirds around the clock face)
I have broken several tools trying to remove the ball bearing! As far as I know the mounting bracket cannot be removed first because one of the securing bolt heads is right behind the bulbous section of the drive shaft and so cannot be pulled clear of its fixing hole/thread.
Any ideas?

and is it stuck on the mount bit behind engine?
if so you can undo the rear engine mount off engine and take the full lot out in once bit.

i did and have done few times, its only 3 or 4 bolts (16mm irrc) once bracket off car its easier to get shaft out if it stuck in.

i did and have done few times, its only 3 or 4 bolts (16mm irrc) once bracket off car its easier to get shaft out if it stuck in. |
A couple of days ago I did have that same thought myself and was going to remove the whole thing with the bracket still attached BUT that was when I noticed that one of the bolts was located behind the drive shaft and its head is only 1 or 2mm away from the shaft - NOT 16mm. How do I unscrew that bolt with the shaft in the way? There doesn't even seem to be a way of getting a spanner on that bolt head due to the very narrow clearance?
I have even seen them second hand on eBay complete with the bracket attached!

umm i have done it to two different 8v engines with the driveshaft in just undone the bolts that could be seen, there was 3 or 4 around the 16mm size head.
what engine is yours? ( i should have asked that 1st)

Cut the bracket in two places to release the bearing...... thats why I offered the spare bracket.... just pay me the postage to get you going again.......... I am all heart you know
