Hi Guys,
I've recently bought a 206 2.0 HDi with a diagnosed head gasket failure, after stripping it all down I found that cylinder 2 is letting by in 2 water ways and basically inflating the cooling system as quick as you can inflate a tyre!
Prior to dismantling, I was advised by my local dealer that there are a few different types of gasket which vary in thickness. The gasket i've just taken off is a 3 hole, i'm not convinced that this is the original or a genuine gasket as the car has covered 187k plus there is a lot of stain on the block surface indicating potential letting by. Also I never snapped a single bolt when dismantling which I found odd and every bolt I removed never looked lets say tired.
Basically my question is, will I benefit from buying a thicker 5 hole gasket as opposed to buying the same one I found on the car? I have been told by the dealer that a thicker one is ok to use but i'm not convinced.
Is anyone able to shed any light on this please?

with the 2.0 hdi's , when the heater matrix fails/blocks it takes the head gasket with it

If the dealer is a pug dealer, id probably go with what they say.
Or, you could go onto service box and get the part number by using your VIN.

No good if the heads been off before as it may have been skimmed

When i drove the car back 35 miles from where i bought it, the heater worked fine but the temp gauge was slightly up and down but i put that down to the main fault plus i had the expansion cap half off to relieve pressure.
If i'm honest i don't know how the car was still running because the EGR has a pinhole to breathe through and the inlet manifold has at least 6mm of carbon build up!
Will be putting a straight edge on the head at the weekend and doing the normal so fingers crossed!
There's a main dealer i've started using and he charges me trade price, he said it was ok to use the thicker gasket if i wasn't sure if the one i took off was the right one for my car, but isn't a thicker gasket more likely to fail in a shorter time?
There's no evidence in the service history that the car has had head work done ( I have a fully stamped book and invoices up to 178k! ) but the way things came off and how easy every bolt came undone without shearing off points to me that some work has been fairly recently done.
