Been wondering what it was since I bought car, as it definitely wasn't dust as too white and powdery.

I took off the surround and it was like a sodding ash tray under their.

Yuck!

I can't imagine what the previous owners lungs must look like although I have a pretty good idea now!

So is there any way to get into the unit as it looks sealed, to clean it out?

white and powdery = cocaine. Well done, you've purchased a drug dealers car and they've hidden the drugs in and around the speedo Laughing

The top binnacle pops off from the back first then towards the front, then you can get into the speedo unit quite easily.

Maybe the car has had to be fumigated at some point and that's a place they didn't clear out.

Wow this might sound turd but I'm blown away at how easy that was to sort out, cowel off, undo screw change bulbs, everything working properly again. Smile

When I took speedo cluster out it must have been a cm deep in yet more cigarette ash, so cleaned out and took lens off and cleaned dust out.

Looks like brand new now and no longer smells like a dog's tuppence when car warms up. It smells so sweet Smile

And I don't know exactly what a dog's tuppence smells like before anyone say's anything but it's probably not particularly sweet! Point made Razz
