I do 20 miles a day on the M5 to work and back everyday sticking to 50 because of roadworks, and being honest I do quite a bit off pottering round town and going to the missis' house which is like a two minute drive so them little trips don't help
Get off the bandwagon, and put down the handbook.

Based on that the mpg would be about right, personally i feel short journeys and diesels don't mix, for short trips a petrol is much better. My last cheapy a 1.6 petrol polo would return 40 mpg over a similar route to yours, but on a longer run the diesel would have been better. On my short route I used to have an a3 tdi that would get 37 is swapped this for a Leon cupra that returns 28 over the same journey.
