How would I go about changing my mpg or making it any better?
I've had my car a month today and covered just over a 1000 miles already, probably because it's a new toy and I'm a young lad but I've worked out that I've averaged 37 mpg and want to improve that. Yes I love the odd drag off the line against some chav in a clapped out fiesta or civic etc but on apprentice wage and high diesel prices, it needs to be changed
Help please

That really is awful!
Has it been serviced recently?
Keep yout tires up at correct pressure helps (only a tiny bit mind)
No brakes dragging?
Is this your 1st diesel car? If it is, you might need to change your driving style as you drive petrol cars completley differently to diesel ones

The car is new to you so you are probably not driving it how you should, I'm getting 24mpg on my 180.

im still getting used to it lol. Although your doing better than me on MPG as im averaging 34 or so and I dont drag off the line lol

According to my trip computer my MPG is around the 50-55 mark. I don't drive around town that much but do take 80 mile round trips on the motorway a fair bit so that might account for it!

Peak torque on diesels is normally about 2k revs
Whenever I have a diesel car, it rarely revs over 2.5k
High gears, Low revs.... Like driving in snow! Easy.

How would you recommend changing? In what way?
It's my first owned diesel but I learnt to drive in a 1.6 206 HDi
need to service it next week as today's payday and work at pug so cheap bits 
and I check my tyres and pressures everyweek

I would recommend changing between 2k and 3k revs, earlier if you aren't in a rush.
Should do 30MPH in 5th ticking over at around 1100 revs so town speeds you can be really gentle on the throttle.... Lazy driving.
That is just how I drive diesels myself, so I can't say it is the best way of doing it
But yeah, give it a good oil/filter, air and fuel filter change.
Also, if you have climate control set int on 'ECO' mode (Not that it will make a huge difference, but every little helps)

Ahh cheers fella, will bear that in mind. It hasn't had a good service since '08, and for as long as I own it, I shall remain serviced!

That is really poor MPG I get about 48 to 52 depending on how I drive.
Get it seviced is the first point of call.

You wont see a 40+MPG unless you do regular long journeys. Potting around town you'll stay where you are at around 35 MPG.

the most i get in mine is around 42 around the town , maybe 50 on a run. i never really take much care in looking to be honest .. just fill it up when it needs to be
