Hi can anybody advise me which is the cheaper fault code reader on the market which will read my 1.4hdi 2002? or tell me which plug is on this car or software is required?

You will need a obd2 code reader, the cheap ones on eBay are ok, or just get a local garage to do it for you. Shouldn't cost too much

If it was petrol then yes but seeing as you have a diesel the answer is NO
