i just bought a peugeot 206, its a 1.4 lx auto with the AL4 gearbox.

The problem with it is that the car takes an inordinate amount of time to accelerate. The car revs to over 3000 revs each time it changes gear.

If i put into sport mode if pretty much has to red line for each gear change.

It also takes an absolute age to change from second to first gear.

Also sometimes it will chug and just cut out.

Another problem is that while the car drives it wobbles.

If anyone has an ideas as to the cause of this would appreciate it.

Sport mode does usually result in the car going almost to the red line before shifting in order to give "sporty" acceleration.

Do mean the other way round from first to second?

no, i mean from second to first, when i slow the car down, it gears down fine until it has to gear from second to first then it sits at 2500 rpm until the car is below 10 mph were the revs then just drop off, and it finally engages first

Oh I see. Yeah there is something wrong there then. Whats the mileage on the car?

As far as I know the only real user serviceable part on the box is the gearbox oil. On the more complex and expensive side of things there's things like electrovalves. Although I dont really know much about that to advise i'm afraid.
