i need to change the battery on the key remote but is there anything i need to do after putting in the new battery

You might have to re-sync it.

Make sure you don't lose the transponder chip when you open the casing up.

It would be easier to answer the question if you gave us some details of your car like maybe the year and the type of key.

As long as you dont leave the battery out too long all will be good, I think its more than 30 seconds and youll have to re-sync it . I did mine recently with no problems.
