Removing engine, some opinions needed

Im removing a gti (138) engine and re-fitting it into another gti. The gti im removing it from is not goin back on the road. Would I be best to undo the subframe and drop the engine to avoid damaging the o/s side driveshaft. Ive got to change the cambelt and water pump before I fit it into the other gti. And also which is the best way to fit it? I have never fitted an engine, only ever removed them.

Take the gearbox off and the shaft out before the engine comes out. The more that comes off it the easier it will be to handle.

Engine isn't heavy at all, two of you can pick it up and throw it around. Just drain all the fluids out. Just need a jack and a couple of axle stands to lower it level, and to raise it

Not worried about weight, have a 5 ton hoist. What I want to no is if I undo the two engine/gearbox mounts and the four bolts holding the subframe can I remove this by lowering it and pulling it foward?
