I have a 138 GTI (W reg) and for some reason i see the ABS light stay on then go off, then days it will just stay lit ? Is this a common problem and what causes it ?

Other problem that is bugging me is i am constantly changing my front tyres as the outer sides are wearing far too quickly ? The wheels have been balanced with new tyres and already after 3 weeks i can see the edge wearing down ? (I heard you can manually adjust toe setting )

Thanks Rolling Eyes

have you had the tracking done depending on the camber of the tires causes different sides to wear

Because i bought the thing for 1000 i dont want to spend another 1000 getting a code and if it was the tracking how i can take it up to 110mph with no steering shakes ? i reckon it might be suspension related or is there a good tyre brand ? Why not try and help instead of being sarcastic...

I did help.

Poor tracking won't cause the steering to shake

And a code read isn't £1000

I've told you what you need. Tracking checked and a code read. About £50 for both

Hey mate, get track rod ends checked, tyre places wont align your wheels if they need replaced, get a mechanic to check for wear on the arms, its not a big job to replace them, if the steering is shaking badly usually its the wheels need balanced. I work in the tyre trade ive seen this plenty of times, plus its happened to me had to get new track rod ends and get all the wheels balanced

Yeah cheers ive just had an MOT yesterday it passed with new Drop links fitted, i want new arms on but can you get reinforced ones for a GTI that won't wear fast ?
MOT ADVISORY - "Offside Front Anti-roll bar has slight play in a pin/bush"

I reckon with reinforced front suspension parts the tyres would last longer and ride better ?

If there wearing on the outside, its definetly tracking. Sounds like your going to have to spend some money on it either way.
