so then, i have had a 1.1 for sometime (as it was the cheapist for me to insure) and was thinking to get a standard 1.4 and put all my mods on to it then sell mine, but that would mean finding a metalic green 1.4 with good miles etc etc and then finding the time to put all the stuff off mine on to the standard one.
But the other day i went to my local scrappy and he had a few good 1.4 engines with low millege and for a good price, he also offerd to fit it for a good price.
my questions are.
1) what do i have to look out for when getting a bigger engine fitted?
2) is it as easy as it sounds or do i have to worry about the gear box and other things.
3) is it really worth it or shall i just find a 1.4 206
my car has less than 70.000 miles on it and its been well looked after by every owner from new, no rust and gear box is as new, i just dont think i will find a 1.4 in my budget like the 1.1 i have now.
another thing is, if i did change the engine and i wanted to sell it somewhere down the line, i reckon i would have a hard time, i wouldn't buy a car thats had an engine change?

The difference between a 1.1 and a 1.4 isn't enough to be worth the time/hassle/money imo.
I'd just wait and save up for a better car

I've owned a 1.4, and my misses has owned a 1.1 and the 1.4 is better up hills etc and to 60, but nothing worth converting an engine for.

what about a 1.6? do you think it would affect my insurace much more than a 1.4, whats the mpg like on a 1.6?

If you are wanting a quick car, you wont get it from a 1.4 or 1.6 conversion you'll be better off sticking with what you have for now and buying a different car all together. Or a gti.

How about be smart and swap to a 1.6 but not tell the insurance?
Grind off the engine numbers, keep the 1.1 inlet and literally not even jesus could tell the difference

As every one above has said that size of leap i would say would hardely be noticeable the 1.6s are good bench Mark plenty of stuff to do and buy for the engine and you'll get some nice power from it
Its expensive game changing engine sizes as your insurance can demand an engineers report witch arnt cheap also the insurance won't like it lol so it's cheaper to just buy the hole car and work on the bits you want.

what if i crash and need to make a claim? or when i need to sell it?

If you put a 1.6 8v into a 1.1 they would never know the difference, not insurance or police - they aren't peugeot specialists.
Not advising it - of course it's your choice and if you are worried about the risk at all don't even bother but like Addaz says, keep smart and your chances of getting caught will be near to non.

Why not look at putting a 106 xsi/ax gti engine in it? Thats available in 1.4, its 100bhp so enough to have a relativley fun car. Its a TU engine so a pretty straight forward swap. Try asking insurance first though as its often cheaper to insure a standard 1.4/1.6 than a car thats had its engine swapped to a bigger one.

so if i sold mine do you think i should go for the 1.6s over the 1.4? its only going to be a run about as i have a 1.9 tdi mk4 golf for long distance.

If you want the 1.6 engine make sure its the 16 valve version.
