Hi All,
I am having a little problem with my brake lights, I have done a search but eveyones problem is having them stuck on... Mine is the opposite.
Sometimes you press the pedal and they work, other times you press the pedal and they don't.
It is all 3 Lights, so I think the problem may be the switch, but it is a little odd that it works sometimes.
It can't be a knacered switch because if that was the case they wouldn't work ever.

the switch works kinnda oddly, when you press the pedal it actually releases the plunger which turns the lights on, and when you release the pedal the plunger goes back turning the lights off, so if they arnt coming on at all and the swich is at fault it could be the plunger getting stuck.
if it was the usual fault the switch not seated properly due to someones feet kicking it all the time, they would be constently on. as you say its intermitent, the switch in the passenergerside footwell is the first port of call. have a friend move the pedal to see if the plunger works or not.

Sounds like brake switch. Anyway is an easy choice to start with first.
The brake switch is just under the passenger side, just unplug it, test it with a meter. Is an easy job with two spanner ratings, u should able to do it.
When u reinstall the swith, make sure u have some one to help u so u can adjust the swith level on proper position.

Thanks for the replies
The threads on the switch were popping it out when the pedal was pressed.
Took the switch out and WD'ed it (just to make sure it was clean, it looked it)
Put it back in and put a small cable tie to hold it.
Works everytime now.
Problem Solved!

Lee, on the passenger side footwell there are two connectors, 1 white the other brown, whilst i was under there i touched the brown one and it appeared to be loose, i could hear what i presume to be a relay clicking, is this brown one the brake switch? Another quick question, if i can wiggle the switch by hand would it also be possible for the motion of the car to move it as well? Reason i ask is we are getting intermitant sounds thru the speakers when on the move, almost akin to the sound of a relay. All this stems from our return journey from Newcastle which was trouble free, only to be greeted by a dead battery the following morning, this interference on the radio (aftermarket) only started on our return journey.

The sound you can hear through the speaker maybe due to a speaker cable becoming frayed and is touching metal. Have you put in custom speakers? I found a frayed speaker cable on mine and it was touching metal and it caused a whine sound when accelerating

Not looked yet Paul, will have to wait till weekend now, dont now why, but i'm still thinking this sound has some how got something to do with the battery draining. As far as we ae aware, the speakers are original, the head unit is an aftermarket Sony job.
