I'm due to do some work on my sisters 206 1.4 8v on a 51 plate and the alarm went off when I disconnected the battery terminal so I slammed it back on straight away. I presume the car is pre-plex as the stalk is skinny rather then the bigger stalk underneath the right hand wiper stalk.

I looked for a alarm switch to hold down to disable the alarm but cannot find one. There is not alarm switch by the handbrake or airbag on/off switch and key only has one button shown in pic below,

If it's preplex, I thought just leave it for a while with bonnet open and then disconnect.

Is it a standard alarm? Sounds like an anti theft feature.

I presume it's a standard alarm, although on my 206 I had two buttons on the key fob and a switch next to the handbrake but this 206 has neither Sad

If it hasnt got ultrasonics then i dont think it will have an alarm. The siren should be behind the passenger topmount. Is that where the sound is coming from?

Sounds like either a retrofit or aftermarket alarm system has been fitted.

A lot of alarm siren's have battery back up & anti tamper built in so as soon as you disconnected the battery it thought someone was tampering with its power supply.

It will shut up after 5 minutes Wink

Unless you know what make of alarm system it is then as far as the correct shut down instructions its anyones guess.

I'll have a hunt for it and see what system it is and google it.

My last resort is to leave it going off for '5 minutes' but knowing my luck it will be 20 minutes later and it is still going off and my neighbours are about as moany as you get.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll let you know how I get on if this bloody weather will hold out for more then 10 minutes.

EU law states it has to shut up after 5 minutes if the system is sounding for anti tamper.

EU law also states car alarm sirens can only sound for 30 seconds at a time when triggered by a theft attempt, thats why a lot of cars the siren shuts up after 30 seconds BUT the hazards will continue to flash for the full 5 minutes.
