 ive messed on with my fuel pump etc. and now the pump will prime normaly then stop before firing up but when running the engine the fuel pump seems to run non stop?is this normal and if not what can i do about it?p.s.does anyone no how to get the big black threaded ring right and tight back on the fuel pump?or know where to get the suggested special tool supposedly available?because its a b***h of a job on and off.The tool looks a bit like a wide 20inch letter U with a smaller letter n fixed underneath with the dimensions to slot into the small plastic posts on the big black threaded ring nut securing the pump with the upper U shape giving 2 handles to grip onto to hold and force the big black ring round.wether it works or not i do not know,i just know these things are tight before removal then tight when being refitted?

The pump runs constantly when the engine is running, its pumping fuel to the engine, If you remove the fuse for it your enginge will cut out! When i changed my fuel pump i used a flat headed screw driver and hammer to remove the ring, and the same to put it back on.

thanks steve206,i thought the pump just had to spin when the pressure needed it to,since the fuel system is pressurised it seems a lot of work for an electrical pump if your drivin for a few hours?i thought the pump just primed the fuel in short blasts every few seconds or so?im sure ive had different cars that work on the intermittent basis like ive said?

Hi, never experienced this before but the fuel pump should it continue to prime the car even when TURNED OFF and locked? Several have told me it is fine but to be honest I DONT TRUST a word they say when it comes to cars, dont think they could find the engine lol
