Worked on motorbikes for a few years so not completely dumb in terms of mechanics but am fairly new to cars.
Was driving my Peugeot 206 1.1 yesterday to and from town, maybe 3 miles?
Anyway the next day (today) I try to unlock it with key fob, will not unlock. used key normally and got in. Tried to turn key in ignition and I get a constant clicking sound. Turned in again to start car and ticking from starter motor aswell and not starting.
When I turn the key once I get a constant ticking sound from the fuse box under the steering wheel and no electrics on the dashboard and being displayed at all. No other lights on the car are working including exterior lights/brake light. In the boot there is a light tube fitted to turn on when the boot is opened which still lights up when the boot is opened to the correct point so I believe their is power and the battery isn't dead?
After checking a few fuses and feeling around the fuse box the centre connector/solenoid seems to be the cause of the ticking. This doesn't say what it is in my manual so I'm kinda stumped.
What's wrong my car people?

Pre plexed or plexed?
Check the earth cable on the gearbox as that is a common issue.
Plug in a code reader and see if anything shows up.
Maybe try a BSI reboot.

I'll check the earth cable momentarily and can't attempt a BSI reboot because A I don't know where the diagnostic tool is located and B my windows are electric and they will not go down!

If your window won't go down, get a mate to sit in the car while you disconnect and reconnect the battery.
The EOBD port is situated next to the fuse box by the drivers knee.

In that case my car is multiplexed (2002 model)
I'll remove the battery and check acid (if it's an acid battery) and charge it tomorrow and if that doesn't correct it i'll attempt a BSI reboot tomorrow. Thanks for your help people.
Just one last question before I disappear for the night if you don't mind clearing something up for me.
Would I be correct in assuming that the EOBD connector mentioned looks like a rectangle strip on the right of the fuse box area and that a testing device is plugged into it to get an error code (which you can also buy for as little as 30 pounds on ebay) is what garages use and have the cheek to charge 30 pounds for?

Yea thats where it is. You can get them off eBay for around £20 I think. Not sure about all garages, but the garage i go to has a snap on one that costs thousands.

Thanks very much for clearing that up for me. I don't feel so bad for having to pay that fee before now then if it doesn't cost as little as the ones i've seen xD
