2nd gear crunch

My car every now and again crunches when putting into second gear. Sometimes happens when higher up the rev range and sometimes lower. Guessing the gearbox will need 2nd gear replacing but dont know much about gear boxes. Also my clutch is on the way out. Would this make any difference? Hope isnt not a full gearbox rebuild

Get your clutch sorted then still see if you have the problem. No point in worrying about that while you have a dodgy clutch.

New clutch time, I had this problem in my GTi when my clutch was on the way out.

Could well be clutch related but I would say 2nd gear synchro-ring naffed. And/or incorrect gearbox oil.

Maybe not a new box then Get a nice clunking when changing from 1st to 2nd as well and clutch judder. Machanic I go to said its cause its nearly gone and they go harder or something at end of their life. Said the flywheel was fine so hopefully new clutch soon will solve the problem
