Ive had new front tyres with tracking and alignment done but the wheels are not balanced, speeds above 50/60 will shake the steering wheel and none of the local garages have the specialist equipment for the job including kwikfit themselves Shocked They all say they are centerless wheels which I can understand .. Any specialist for the job?! I'm near enfield

Haha, specialist equipment!

Its the same balancing they use on the normal wheels, they just need to change the adaptor then bolt your wheel on. Most of them cant be bothered with the extra 5 minutes work. And when they do, they usually charge a couple of quid more per wheel.

found one and what a struggle, 55 minutes to balance 2 wheels, they didn't look too happy with the machine they were working with but now is sorted. Thumbs Up

Balancing centreless wheels, any tyre place can do these if they can be bothered to fit the adaptor to the machine.

15 years ago balacing centreless wheels was a problem, these days it isnt.

Garage I trained at had one of these. Never had a problem balancing any wheel, and had the added bonus of balancing the brake disc/drum and driveshaft at the same time. Only thing the driver had to do was if they took the wheel off, make sure it went back on with the valve opposite the correct stud, otherwise the balance would be out.

Dont see many machines / places these days that offer on car wheel balancing.

So what machine does it actually on the car and is there really much of an advantage to take into account hub/shafts etc?

Also what a centerless wheels?

When there is no center cap to balance the wheels so an adaptor must be bolted on.

The machine I pictured. The stand goes under the car and picks up the vibration which then sends it to the machine you're sat on and somehow it works out how much weight and where.

Some of the cars we were working on regularly ran at speeds of 100+mph and the customer demanded the quality and as they spent around £1m a year with us, they got what they wanted. The added bonus was that Joe Bloggs also got the use of the equipment when their car came in for service, but there is no real advantage at normal motorway speeds.
