Hi, my lads petrol 1.4 (51 plate) has tonight decided that it wants to play up. It running incredibly lumpy and "grabbing" as though it's struggling to get air. The engine management light is flashing also. I got it home, lifted the bonnet and the exhaust from the manifold was glowing orange!.
Any thoughts/advice/ideas would be grateful
Thanks, Dave.

you can say Bye Bye to your car Catalyst converter,it's clogged, which makes the air flow very poor, and the engine is suffering to breath,so decat it,or get a new one from scrappy, because the brand new one will cost you an arm and leg

Thanks for the speedy reply Timon2210. How easy is it to de-cat? Anything special required?

I had a quick look underneath this morning, I was intending to remove the front part of the exhaust but it requires a deep socket to get the bolts off...I don't have any so it's going to have to wait till after the bank holiday,
Thanks again, Dave.

Well, I changed the cat today and it's still a bag of crap!. Running like s**t. Any other ideas? Coil pack? Is there any reason why that should make the cat get to meltin point?

New cat £90. I'm thinking coil pack. If all the fuel isn't being burnt (plugs look sooty) and the cat is hot then the fuel is being burnt in the cat..hence nice glowing cat!. .??
