Have a w reg 1.1, won't idle. As soon as you lift off it stalls, runs fine if revved, will rev smoothly right through the range until you lift off then stalls. Starts first time as long as have foot lightly on accelerator. Was told probably MAP sensor, have changed that but made no difference, any ideas?

As Dave said, sounds like a ICV Issue, there is a how to on the forum on how to give it a clean, its literally a 5 minute job and can work wonders!

Still sounds like the ICV / idle stepper motor. Perhaps it's simply died. It would be nice to check it out first though.
Try a wiggle test of the ICV connector whilst it's trying to idle. See if it makes a difference
Remove the ICV, connect its connector and see if the valve moves when you turn ign on/off
Check if power/ signal is arriving at the ICV
Check the resistances through the ICV terminals

They are only around £15 new if it is dead

will try that tomorrow, thanks for tip, modern (!) cars got too many gadgets on them, did all my tinkering on 70's fords and vauxhalls, much simpler to diagnose.

Failing that, I had a issue slightly similar, but the car was revving up even whilst driving it, thus pulling me down the road.

It came out to be the MAP sensor.
