I cant seem to fit my hand underneath the metal crossing to twist it to come off?

remove the screen wash bottle neck and then try again?
i got small hand so i never have problems

you have to twist it counter clockwise then pull it out. then change the bulb, push it in and turn it clockwise and it should lock back
EDIT- sorry didnt read you already knew that lol but yeah when i done mine i had to use two fingers as i didnt know you can take the water filler pipe out

Its quite a fiddly job. Took me a while to get mine out. After the first time its easy.

Make sure you cover the opening for the screen wash lol....don't want a sidelight to fall down there, especially as you'll have it between two fingers.
That is a very fiddly job. Although, saying that, a mk7 fiesta is a lot more of a faff.
