Hi, I'm new to the site. I own a 52 plate Peugeot 206 and i'm having an issue with it. When i'm driving my car and i take my foot off the accelerator my car makes what i can only describe as a grinding noise, not overly loud but loud enough for me to notice it whilst inside the car. It only seems to be doing this when slowing down from 30mph and then stops once i start to accelerate again.

Anyone had a similar problem or know what it could be?! I've already had a new clutch put in so don't think it's the clutch.

Also may be worth noting that i had new brake discs and pads fitted around 2months ago so don't think it'll be anything to do with worn brakes

This is a maybe and correct me if I'm wrong but discs and pads need to be warn in so it could be caused by these ?. I also have a slight grinding noise when I break at low speeds (slight pressure not a hard break) and my mechanic told me that the pads and discs were relatively new and didn't need to be changed.
sig removed due to size

A few people have said to me it could be the new pads and discs "bedding" in as they put it. Just hope it's not something else i'm going to have to fork out for as i'm sick of paying for repairs on this car!

A few hundred miles should be enough to eliminate bedding in of the brakes and they shouldn't make a grinding noise. Squeal possibly yes but grinding no.

If no one makes an informed experienced suggestion get it looked at.

Might be worth checking that the exhaust isn't very close to or touching the bodywork. When an engine accelerates or decelerates the engine rocks forward or backward and the exhaust can vibrate at high frequency against the body work and that can sound a little like a grinding noise.

It might not be touching with the car stood still but the engine movement can make it touch when decelerating.

Does it make the noise when braking or only when decelerating? if it is just decelerating then new pads and discs may just be a coincidence and back to looking at other items.

If it is making the noise when braking then possibly pads / discs but that was not your original description.

It only makes the noise when i take my foot off the accelerator, if i apply the brakes the noise pretty much stops or when i re apply the accelerator the noise also stops
