My 1.4 hdi sounds like its got an air leak
on tick over it sounds like a hissing noise or chuffing, sounds like its coming from under the air filter box.
any ideas what it could be?

Could be the injector seals, also could be an air leak near the egr valve, have heard that is a fairly common problem.

take all the covers off the tpo of the engine the leaking injector will be covered in carbon if not start the engine to find out which one it is.
remove the injector avoiding getting dirt down the hole.
there's a copper washer on the bottom of the injector - remove it and hold it over a flame (gas cooker} with a pair of plyers till its cherry red.
this softenes the washer. refit and tighten down. start the engine to make sure its worked then put it all together

my other cars a delica
