This morning i was driving to work and was about to park. I put the handbrake on and when i released it the car wouldn't reverse. I tried to reapply the handbrake but it wouldn't go up.
Its as if the handbrake is on although the handbrake is off.
Any ideas on how to fix so i can get home tonight?
EDIT: I did have the handbrake tightened on Saturday but all was fine until today. Not sure if this could have caused the issue.

Shoes are sticking in the rear drum. It will come off with a thud when you set off. You'll probably need new shoes putting on in the next few weeks. Fairly common fault on a 206.

Tried to drive off and can very very slowly but nothings released itself. I can't reverse only go forward.
I did have the handbrake tightened on Saturday so assume it could have something to do with this.

UPDATE: AA came out and loosened the handbrake and reset it. Just as he was about to drive off i parked the car and applied the handbrake, it raised right up.
AA man thinks the cable has gone so car is at the garage. Anyone got an idea on costs of repairing this?
Thanks in advance.

We had a brake shoe lining come away from the shoe .. it then jams the drum ... sounds like it may be the same.
It happened to us after a very wet spell and the parts dealer though it could have been the adhesive on the shoes getting wet. In the "old days" they were riveted on .. I remember helping my Dad put new linings on old brake shoes, in the days when you could buy the linings separately!!!
