I noticed the other day that my 1.6 16v XSI has a split boot lid on the nearside. In addition an abs warning light's recently come on. I believe that the nearside ABS ring is probably the cause.
Do you guys recon its better/cheaper to change the boot lid and ABS ring or just opt for a new drive shaft?

the shaft rarely got damaged.
the worse case you could replace the CV joint. In fact it is getting hard to order new driveshaft.

Well I was thinking if I have to take the drive shaft off to change the ABS ring anyway it might be better to just change the shaft. J&R are selling a new one for £35 delivered. Do you recon that's easier?

LMAO, those shaft are useless!
that price is barely higher than scrap price for a used OEM shaft!

Hmmm yeah I was dubious too at first, but then again it does come with a 2 year warranty.

2yr is nothing on driveshaft. my oem shaft was12 year old without a single click!
there is a reason why driveshaft aren't cheap.
and most likely they can offer cheap shaft is because they don't even proper rebuild it. most likely they buy loads of used shaft and then cleaning+new boot->resold.

Ok fair enough, ill just change the boot lid and ABS ring. Anyone got a how to on removing the nearside drive shaft (to change the ABS ring)?

Didn't need to take the shaft out in the end. Just cleaned out the CV area, put new grease in and installed a strong boot clip. Whoever owned the car before me used a plastic clip to hold the boot lid on lol

cable tie is fine.
although metal cable tie is the one which normally used.
