For a while now my 1.4 petrol revs high about 2.5-3k on startup. If I disconnect the battery for at least 30 seconds and then start it again, it will idle correctly for the rest of the day. Any ideas?
Cheers

What he said, check your icr I wouldn't of thought map sensor for that my map sensor is temperamental and that just causes engine to stall not to rev high, but it could do that problem too, worth checking I suppose.

Is the valve easy to get to / remove? Also, why would disconnecting the battery solve the problem?

The idle control valve of your looking into your engine bay from the front you have the throttle body to the right of that at the back you have the idle control vale, pop it out and clean it and that would be because your resetting the ecu making your computer think everything is okay until it discovers the fault I'm guessing?
