ok well here goes,

im in the process of restoring a 1.1 206 1999 petrol HFZ. 130000 miles!!!

i would like to know as i know this car hasnt been looked after with only one owner whom i know, she did jack s**t to look after it apart from clean and mot it, but i fell in love with the car when i saw it and had to have it

im a fairly skilled diy mechanic with time, haynes, tools and internet at the ready! what i should replace/check etc

i would like to flush engine and radiator then refill, and a full service. but im looking for more than this. servicable parts to replace etc

i want this car for me but i want it to last a few years as i have commitments at the minute which are costing me a few quid

examples are if i remove sump to look for debris do i need to replace a gasket, how do i test head gasket, i have heard of adjusting tappets and am confident but unsure where to start. basically i have 3 months of this sat on my drive with 4 days a week to spend on it before i lose my company car and use this

just throw your ideas / experience at me on this post and i will probably end up doing it all lol. must add car cost 50 quid and has a few faults that i am in the process of rectifying but want some advise/oppinions/knowledge to get her up and running and ensure the engine and components are 100%

(how long do charcoal cannisters last????)

regards
shaun

I'm not familiar with the 1.1 i have the 1.4 but definitely do cam belt and tensioners, tappets are easy use your haynes for help with that.
I would also change brake fluid and gearbox oil (double check you get the right oil - they dont like the wrong grade)
Be careful with engine flush - I've had a bad experience once when it loosened all the built up carbon in the engine but then blocked all the oil passage ways up. Had to strip and clean engine eventually. I have used it since in other cars but never again if there coked up.

I'm sure someone with more experience with 206's will come along eventually
