My 1.4 HDi has recently been chucking out black smoke (better than white or blue im guessing) when driving sensible say along 50/55mph about quarter throttle.
I can just see in my wing mirror whisps of black smoke following me, more that would would be classed as 'normal'. I'm not 'slugging' the car out or making it pull from low revs before the turbo kicks in. (Will heave smoke out like a train then)
It hasnt been remapped, decatted, tuned, etc in any way shape or form.
Pulls well and drives fine, 55-60 mpg and can hear the turbo spooling/whistling.
Quick check around engine bay and nothing seems out of place. No splits in pipes etc.
New fuel & air filter around 2000 miles ago.
Possible air flow sensor/meter?
No faults have popped up in Peugeot Planet, although it does need a new crank sensor from a previous reading.

Or try it without the redex first, much cheaper lol
My car used to smoke a bit, but since taking it to the Rolling Road meet a few weeks ago, its no where near as bad

Check for splits in the pipes first, even better than redex would be the BP Ultimate or some Shell Vpower
First point would be to check the pipes

Millers diesel treatment every other tank especially if your filling up at supermarkets should help.

thought I might as well update this, I thought my MAF was on its way out. Car wouldn't really respond, MPG was down considerably and would heave out black smoke when cruising along the A roads. Although there was no faults I didn't want to go and fork out on a new MAF to discover the problem lies a bit deeper.
So read around a bit and some people have used brake cleaner to clean the MAF with.
Well I had carb cleaner and thought, what the heck, took it off and doused it through. It was fairly black as it dripped out. I let it dry out and popped it back on.
The car is different to drive now. Not so much but just a little more responsive, the smoke has gone and the MPG is up about 6/7 miles Very Happy
All in all I'm happier with it now.
