Noticed the other day that in 2nd and 3rd after 4000rpm I get a strange noise coming from the belt area of my car.
It doesn't do it when you are on full throttle, but when you lift off at say 5000, and I just tried it on light throttle and it does it too. It stops completely when the engine runs down below 4000rpm.
If you are at 5000rpm, lift off, then dip the clutch it doesn't make the noise so it must either be belt, engine related and not rolling speed related if that makes sense.
It sounds sort of like a belt/tensioner typed noise but the circumstances it happens under are odd. The Cambelt kit was changed at 38k, car is on 46k so I don't think it's that. Alternator, aux belt/tensioners? Just weird it happens on lift off. Maybe the belt is loose I'm not sure?
Only other thought was gearbox but it doesn't sound like a knocking or metallic noise.
Any ideas?...

What strange noise? A belt/tensioner noise doesn't really help. Is it a squeek? A cricket noise? A rubbing? Vibration?

Hard to explain. Kind of like a bearing squeak. My old 306 diesel made a similar noise when it's aux tensioner went but not the same. Sort of sounds like noisy suspension too but as said before its engine speed related not actual speed related

Does it sound like you've got a few crickets under your bonnet? Mine used to do it in the wet and when it was cold - its just the belt and/or tensioners that are cold and squeek (tight/not tight enough). It should go once everything is warmed up.
