Hi and thanks for your posts, no matter how I drive it I get around 260-280, the roads I drive on are pretty good, total of 2 stops at junctions and that's it, you only need to brake 3 times, twice for the 2 junctions and 1 at work, I can think of roads a lot worse. I do use vpower, does this stuff burn quicker? Since I've had the car I've used vpower. I travel 24 miles a day, 12 to work and 12 back.

Ive started doing a 350 miles a week commute to work recently. I need to put £50, this just about covers it. Computer says 40MPG, and i dont go over 60. Mines a GTi 138. I'd say yours is drinking it!

If i use our BMW 1 Series 118D, i can do it on £40, computer says its doing 53MPG

Its been a good month now and I,ve tried a lot of things. Injector cleaner, full service, I've taken it to a garage and they checked my emissions and they said it was brilliant. mpg is better, with a full tank I now get 320 miles.

What else could I possible check or do? I don't rev my car I don't go above 60mph, even tho when I do go 60 my car screams like it needs to change up, should my car sound like this, 60mph puts my rev meter on 3000rev

Anyone got any suggestions for me, would be so greatful.

I believe when he says fifth gear he means he uses every time its suitable? Rather than sitting in fourth without realising...for fuel u need to check tyre pressures and keep them between 32 and 34 psi also check for leaks obviously and get a few quid petrol in a can and run a full tank out for definate mpg reading...

also it wouldnt hurt to get that exhaust hole welded or patched.it wouldnt cost much and might make a bigger difference than you might expect...

also switch to normal unleaded as you will not be making any advantage on your cars engine as its too small and not tuned enough to make gains and could be the factor thats causing your poor mpg as the haynes recommends normal unleaded from a garage and not a supermarket...also its cheaper...

If you fill up with fuel in the morning you get more for your money as it expands and get rid of unneccessary weight...its bad for economy carrying a boot full of junk or wotever its mpg loss again.

dont excellerate up hill at all it doubles or more your intake rate and swap your air filter for a good panel filter avoiding induction kits as they cause more guzzling of petrol

I use to get 45 - 50 miles per gallon out my 1.6 XSi doing my daily drive.

Have you checked for fuel leaks?
Air filter condition?
Could even be some dirt on the AFM?

Thanks for the advice, my car got put on the emissions test they use for mot testing, if the reading has come back brilliant, could it still be one of the maf sensors or cat or even the AFM? would the emissions detect fauts from those areas?

Not absolutely sure but I would think it's worth checking the intake side even if you're getting reasonable readings on the exhaust gas.

I have heard of people on other cars carefully cleaning the wires (in the centre) of the MAF using some thinners and a cotton bud. They seem to think things improve afterwards.

Checking the state of the air filter is a 5 min job so def worth doing.

I used to get about 150-180 miles out of 25-30litres which only last me 2 and half week in my 1.1l.

I get about 400 miles out of a full tank on my 1.4. probably a bit less this time of year with the heating on.

yo dude, i have a 53 plate XSI 1.6 16v i put in a full tank of fuel roughly £55 a week and i get more than 500 miles out of my car, that is filling it with Shell Vpower and i can occasionally rag my car too hell, but it still pushes anywhere too 450 - 500 miles and when i fill up sometimes it can last me 2 weeks depending on how i drive it, seems like you do have a major problem with your tank.. are you sure your actually putting the fuel pump nozzle into your petrol tank Razz

I have a 1.6 16v XSI (Quicksilver) On a fuel tank I get anything between 470 - 500 miles mixed road driving.

I had a similar issue with my 1.6 16v Quicksilver '05 & it turned out to be temperature sensor (underneath airFILTER box) - its green. It was apparently causing the fuel/air mixture to be waaaaaay out - hence really low fuel economy
