What do you mean exactly by wrong-speedo. Where the plugs behind the unit the same?

If you have a factory fitted stereo and you are refering to the MFD (not actually ON the headunit but in the centre section on the car) not displaying stereo info, sounds like you've messed-up the CAN bus by pluging with engine running. Try reseting the BSI.

If the plugs where wrong it wouldn't work.

I don't think BSI reset would help in this case if the stereo is playing up and is not factory fitted. Worth a try though and check the fuse on the back of the stereo itself just incase.

So many problems seem to be caused by aftermarket stereos.

Can't decide if it's the crappy French car that they are being fitted into, or if it's user error. I am tending to lean towards the latter.

Sounds like you've fried the bsi and now its lost signals from your dash board connections.

Take it to have its codes read and see what comes up, that will also give you some idea about the previous problems.

I believe BSI reset is only for multiplexed (built Nov 2001 onwards).

Check all fuses again, (engine fusebox, cabin fuse box and back of the headunit itself) with multimeter not just visualy.
Make sure you didn't disturb any wiring when you were messing with the clusters.

I can't see the BSI affecting the stereo though on a non-mux car. Possibly a wiring issue..

Taken from the thread
HOW TO: Soft boot the bsi and change battery

Lee wrote:
For a non-multiplexed model

- You may need your radio code upon reconnection
- If your car has a Peugeot anti-theft alarm system, disable this
- Disconnect the negative terminal first
- Disconnect the positive terminal
- Complete intentions

- Now to re-connect, Connect the positive terminal first
- Connect the negative terminal
- Before starting the engine for the first time, turn on the ignition and wait for 10 seconds to initialise the various electronic control units
- Activate alarm system, if you have one
