No because we have the same problem with all 3 MAFs, the 2 new ones and the old one.

Right, its been a while but heres an update:

The car is still in limp. But now, we have hit another problem. The rev counter is jumpy, and sometimes doesn't work at all.

Also, when driving down the motorway, we've noticed that if you let your foot off the throttle, the car dies completely and cuts out, and you have to wait a few minutes before starting. Any ideas??

The MAF won't be giving you limp mode, more likely the fuel pressure sensor that you mentioned earlier. I've got a spare somewhere, bring the car to me and I will sort it out. I'm in Bristol.
Drop me an email if interested as I don't get on here much: remap @ hdi-tuning.co.uk

I know you all say the cheapy MAFs are no good, but whats the chances of 2 brand new ones from the same place being faulty/a bit dodgy; both having the same problems?

lol the other month, i replaced my starter motor, the first one made a horrible whiny noise, so drove to euro car parts for a replacement, the second one did the same loud whiny noise, they upgraded to lucus at no extra charge and it worked fine. so the moral of the story is, if some thing is made s**t, the chances are the next one of the line will be too.

I would go over the MAF plug with a multimeter.

1= air temp sensor - this will be very low around 0.0x v
2= 12v supply
3= ground through ECU
4-n/a not connected
5= flow sensor - this will be around 0.6v with the engine not running
6= ground through ECU
