Hi everyone as I am new to peugeots I noticed yesterday when I was in traffic that the middle temp gauge (oil temp) I am lead to believe. Go's all the way to just before the last line which is 110 degress and the temp gauge on the right (water temp) goes to 90 and fan kicks in and cools it all down. I was just wondering if this is normal or not as if fan fails it doesn't leave u much time to realise .

I believe you have that the wrong way around mate.

Temp is middle, far right is oil.

I thought that myself but the bloke I bought it off has worked for Peugeot 25 years and said it was the other way round must be goin daft old age is this right then is that what happens?

I believe this is normal especialy if your sat in traffic it can help if u put your heater on hot and divert some of the heatt away from the engine...how old and wot type is your car???it may be due a service and a coolant change and dont fotget to use plenty of coolant not just water...people think its just antifreeze but it aids cooling aswell so that might help...also do u have any warning codes as there could be a deeper fault with temp. Sensors so getting the codes checked would be sensible ...are u gettin any further symptoms/noises/warning lites etc.etc.

No nothing mate everything seems fine it is a gti 140 it is 2002 but the engine only has 39 thousand I just done oil and water as I just had to put new engine in about 2 wks ago everything seem fine apart from that I only had the car for 3 days with the other engine in and it did it then but the bloke I bought it off just fixed the fan and said that was ok just wondering if everyone else's car is doin the same thing

Water temp is the middle one on your car, and oil temp is on the right. The water temp should sit around 90 usually, and will rise slowly in traffic etc and the fan kicks, brings it back down towards 90.

The oil temp sits around 90 unless its driven hard in which case it does rise slightly but it hardly moves at all compared with the water.

Mine is a diesel and it goes up to 90ish in traffic then back down again. The heater helps if you are paranoid like me.

Before I changed my coolant it didn't go up or down, it just stayed at 80 all the time but since changing the coolant, proper Peugeot coolant I might add, it goes up then down with aid from heater or fan kicking in.

Mine is however using some coolant, I have done 4200 miles in 2 months, so maybe just being a bit paranoid.

Do u know why he changed the engine for this one???and do u have proof its done only 39000...u migjt have a small airlock in your cooling system...its cheap enuf to get right...just find a plastic bottle the right size to sit into your expansion tank mouth sitting comfortably giving a joined connection where it sits so if its empty it will rest on its own into the exp. Mouth without touching inside at all...

It may take some finding but once you have it take the cap off and cut the bottom off near the bottom leaving a big capacity funnel then start the car and remove exp.tank cap and top right up with coolant/water mix
then sit and hold funnel/made bottle in place on the tank and half fill it with coolant mix and let it run...after 30seconds or so squeeze the larger water pipes a bit to help circulation and keep an eye on tank funnel....u may get some bubbles and gurgling this is air escaping which is wot u want.....once the water mix in the funnel stops gurggling and no more bubbles rise then put hand over cap of bottle and lift away...

Turn engine off...then with a long thin sponge soak away some mix coolant from tank until your somewhere near the fill level...then fix expansion cap on and airlocks will be gone...dont forget once youve driven for a day or two to check the coolant level...

Ye I changed the engine mate had a bump into the plastic cones on the islands in middle of road and it cracked the sump and seized the engine I had only had the car 3 days swerved to miss a fox and hit the cones (gutted) the first day I got the car I noticed temp hi n checked for fan and it was not comin on so I took it back to the man I got it off and he realised the wires were corroded in the little compartment on back of rad so he fixed it spot on day 3 I crashed it day 12 I was back on road it's been about 2 wks now I only really go to work and back but the other day I went to town stuck in traffic and realised temp was hi till fan kicked in but was just worried this was not normal? Still not sure any info much appreciated thanks

Well the bleed valves all good and well but it will likely add air in system unless u use it proply whilst using the set up on top that i said...this is the only way to be sure of no air in system...
