hiya,
Does anyone have any ideas about this issue thats driving me mad?
a few weeks ago my passenger airbag started to activate and deactivate as and when it wanted to, i did a pp2000 reading and got back the following faults.
airbag ecu
intermittent fault, passenger's airbag deactivation.
airbag ecu
Remote intermittent fault, VAN network.
so of i trots to the local pug dealership, only to be told that the car would need an engineer to check all the wiring! i pointed out that i had a pp reading and showed him what pp came up with, and asked what they meant, but he wasn't interested in helping. i guess the Aldershot pug dealershit is just a bad one.
i posted a thread on here, and thanks to all who replied, i believe its a loose connection somewhere, but sadly i didn't find it, and as the car still started i put the problem off for the time being.
Now, the other day i tried to start her, Immobiliser fault came up.
the engine turns nicely, but it just dont spring to life. i tried the spare key and its the same, the beeps sound happens when i open the drivers door and the key is still in the ignition, i have also done a bsi reboot a few times.
i called the RAC and after being told i would hame a 3 hour wait, 2 drivers turned up in ten mins lol.
the man done some checks, checked fuses and he ended up in the fuse box area inside the car, periodically trying to start the car.
after a couple mins of this the car started!
the airbag fault did not come up, neither did the immobiliser fault show its ugly face. he told me he had no idea why the car just started, he said he had just tried to pull the fuse box closer for a better look when it started. so off i go to work.
once at work i turned her off, then tried to start her again, she started fine.
8 hours later though was a different matter, RAC called again at 9:30 told two hour wait, 12:45 a Westbourne truck turned up and said RAC sent them.
anyway, after telling the bloke about the immobiliser fault, he goes in to the fuse box area, his diagnostic reader says ECU is not responding, he checks some connections and has a good rummage behind the fusebox, while doing this, the MFD unit and my parrots power turns off and on a few times, which makes me think its a bad connection even more.
he informs me that my immobiliser was not fitted at factory level but later by pug, and he can't find where it was earthed to the car. he then told me he thinks its a bad earth on the transponder. TOWED HOME
he did give me a number of a motor technician that was meant to be very good. long story short, the t**t didn't show up or call to say he couldn't make it, up yours G & G autos!
i've tried to get pp2000 to do a reading, but the ECU aint responding.
i've had a good look behind the dash, well as good as poss, not knowing whats what.
she's now in economy mode
206 hdi
2003
multiplex
any help, or if you know a decent auto electrician in the Guildford area, would be most welcome

Immobility faults fixed by disconcerting the battery over night and re connecting it :S

If you have a immobilizer fault your Ariel that goes around your barrel could be at fault or your car has forgotten your keys transponder, a reprogram should do the job
My pre plexed 206 had a airbag fault, it was my passenger airbag with an open circuit. I pushed the plugs in under the steering wheel and it went away

If u can find the transponder just run a new earth wire to it from somewhere on the body to the transponder...if this doesnt fix it disconnect the battery as told in how to forum and leave it off over night as mentioned above...then in mornin reconnect the battery using the bsi reboot procedure and cross fingers and try it out...

i can't reprogram my keys as the ecu is now not responding.
its a mulitiplex, i've looked and made sure all plugs i can find are secure.

Two different recovery men, and as the lights on the MFD and my parrot would flick on and off as the second rac dude was rummaging about behind the steering wheel/ fusebox area, But the mileage clock and interior light didnt, (sadly its not doing it anymore, or id try and narrow it down to a certain area) that leads me to believe a loose/bad connection is the culprit.
I will disconnect the battery now and try it when i get back from work tonight.

I thought that all 206s left the factory with an immobiliser and it was built into the ECU circuit.
The recovery guys pulling fuses and tugging on wires may have made your problem even worse.

so is that NOT the immobiliser transponder???
are the alarm and immobiliser not one in the same box??

The transponder chip is in the key. Tiny black thing about the size of a little finger nail. Very easy to miss. There is an aerial which runs around the ignition barrel which picks up the chip and allows the car to start. You can pick the aerial up from any Peugeot dealer and is easy to fit. (616076 £8.06)
The alarm is a completely separate unit. Some cars left the factory with them, some didn't. Easy way to tell if it's a factory fitted alarm is to see if you have the switch near the handbrake.
If you've got a spare key, try that. The immo chip can stop working. If it has, it needs to be replaced with a new chip and programmed using PP2000. You'll also need the code which should be on a card with the handbook. If not the dealers can get it for a price.

There must be more to the immobilizer than that aerial as how many car thieves have the keys???very few but the aerial would be really easy to get around if its on its own...there must be a more active part that issolates cranking or firing of the car or people would just short the aerial out to get it running...
the aerial is obviously a part of the immobilizer but not the gubins of the thing...that will be seperate and possibly in that box and likely part of the alarm aswell...

yeah i see the transponder in the key when i did a key swap, i though the immobiliser would also have a transponder too, and they would link up if ya know what i mean?
no, no switch by the hand brake.
i've tried the spare key and its the same.
i have pp2000, but sadly the ecu is not responding now. but it was a couple of weeks ago.
i will try pug tomorrow for the aerial, but im guessing they will be closed
after leaving the battery unconnected 10 hours while i was at work, i asked my next door mate to reconnect the battery as i couldn't do both with the window shut. i jump in the car and shut the door, he connects the battery, i start counting, i get to 5 and he opens the drivers door grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
oh and what does that single tone sound mean when you first turn the lights on after the reconnection of the battery??

Dealers should be open tomorrow, but maybe only half day.
It's definitely sounding like the ECU has gone. Is Planet connecting with the car at all so you can do the global test and get things like vehicle information?
I don't know the exact workings of the immobiliser but from what I know is the chip in the key is like a switch. The aerial picks up the chip is nearby and sends the signal to the BSI and ECU to say the car can be started. No chip recognised and the car just turns over and doesn't fire. I know someone on here had the full Peugeot circuit diagrams that aren't published to the DIY mechanic. Unfortunately they aren't an active member anymore. Would have been a help to trace the wiring.

shes all fixed now.
one of the mobile auto electricians i called the other day called me first thing and said he could come look at the car, so while i was waiting for him, i ordered the aerial you spoke of from pug, (i get it friday, im guessing it will come in handy and at only £8 its worth having laying around).
he found that the engine light wasn't lit up on the dash, he said that meant the ecu and engine was not talking to each other, after checking wires with a multi meter and a lighty thingy, he found a small red wire that was in with loads of other wires down under the air filter, it had somehow corroded in the middle, he just cut out the bad and reconnected it, broom broom she's starts
he also informed me that the passenger air bag light might be because when i changed the passenger switch i didn't clear the fault from the ecu, so it just kept coming back on, its now showing no faults on pp2000, and i bloody hope it stays that way.
