Just wondering whether the 206 GTi is considered a classic yet? I know they say 25 years but that was because a car that age used to become tax exempt.

With all these ultra modern designs about now, I look at my standard GTi and think its looking more like a classic every day. But then the 206 is modified a lot more than the 205 GTi ever was, so maybe it won't ever be a classic. I don't see a huge amount of 206 GTi's on my travels so maybe there are less on the roads Confused

I think a car has to be pre 1973 to be tax exempt. The 206 isn't a classic at the moment.

It will get there but will be at least another 10 years. Stuff like 205's are 20 years old now.

Even stuff like the first Fiesta XR2's are 30 years old and I'm not convinced they are a classic yet. Not far off though.

2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

I guess the word 'classic' is different for everyone, I consider any car built in the 80s a classic, but I'm sure my old fella would say the 60 or 70s Rolling Eyes

HM Revenues & Customs generally class 'classic' cars as cars 15 years or over, with a value of over £15k. Those which are registered before 1973 are called 'historic vehicles' (tax-wise)

It is generally assumed that cars over 25 years old are referred to as 'classic', whilst newer "classic" cars are 'modern classic'.
Insurance Brokers and Insurance Companies regard a 'Modern Classic' as a vehicle that is considered collectible regardless of age.

Vintage ('the vintage era') is 1919 to 1930, veteran is pre-WW1.

Personally I can never see the 206 being classed as a classic collectors car, they just dont really have enough/any wow factor...its just a really average car.

The all-time favourite car I owned was a stunning 1989 (F-reg) metallic blue Fiat Uno Turbo ie Antiskid. I miss that car Sad

I though I was the man when I finally got an XR2 in 1993 Cool Embarassed oh and insurance was just as bad back then Rolling Eyes
