I'm new to these forums and the world of cars for that matter so bear with me!

I'v been hit hard with snow since Friday and so my car has been sat in the drive untouched since then. Yesterday I tried to start it up. As I pressed the unlock button on the keys, the normal indicator lights flashed and the locks sounded as if they had opened but they didn't. I then tried pressing lock then unlock again and still no luck so I used the key itself to unlock the car which then started the alarm.

I got into the car and put the key in the ignition to stop the alarm but no luck so the only thing I could do was pop the bonnet and disconnect the battery.

This is where the fun begins.

Since reconnecting the battery, the central locking doesnt work, the buttons on the key have no effect and when I put the key in the ignition, it turns over and all the diles come on as normal but when I try to start the engine there is a loud "click" noise and everything shuts off. If I leave the key in the ignition with everything dead nothing will come back to life, no diles, no lights but a strange tapping noise which I found was coming from the engine fuse box. This tapping noise then stops when I take the key out and when I put it back in, the whole process starts over again.

Iv read on various posts that this could be down to many things such as the cold effecting the battery (which is a month old). The key itself but its not damaged and I tried using the spare key with the same effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as Im pulling my hair out over this!
Thanks!

Hope you haven't buggered the BSI

Is your car plexed or pre plexed? Search for the beginners guide if you are unsure. It used to get sent out to all new members when they signed up, so might already be a link in your inbox to it.
