On my 1.4 hdi a get a strange noise when moving clutch up to pull off. Or holding on the bite. Its sounds a bit like a hmmnn sound. If I increase the revs a bit more it sometimes doesnt do it but sometimes does. No clutch slip.
Any idea what it could be?

Could be the thrust bearing, get a local garage to have a look, shouldn't charge you too much
