Hey guys,

I thought I'd use this thread to keep a log of the things I've been doing on my girlfriends car and its progress.

The cars a 2001 china blue Dturbo with 117k miles on the clock.

As you can see it's in pretty clean condition.

But its in need of lowering as it looks like its on stilts.

We bought the car eighteen months ago to replace her 2001 Megane Coupe 2L IDE as it was too thirsty and costing loads to run.

It was a shame we had to get rid of it as it was a really nice car and it only had 70k miles on the clock.

Unfortunately it took about six months to sell the Megane so the 206 just sat on the drive until it had gone.

When we got it on the road the brakes were shocking so it had new discs, pads and while I was replacing them I noticed the offside drop link rubber had perished. The rear shoes had also shed its lining so it's had brakes all round and I cleaned up and painted the drums.

Next was the handling, the car was unsteady on the road and the rear swing arm was an advisory on the last MOT so thought it might of been because of that. I replaced the bearings on that side.

I had to use a hydraulic ram to get the arm off as the torsion bars were seized on.

Replacing the bearings made no difference.

I ordered these last week.

They're only going to lower 35mm as we don't want it too low.

Then I thought it must be something on the front so last weekend before I took that a part I checked the tracking on my new trackace , I found to my surprise that it was toeing out 40' and I should be toeing in 7' ±4 now I've heard that toe out can cause the issues but I didn't think it could be that bad any way I stripped the front suspension and checked everything. I found the bottom ball joints were dry, the offside one had a lot of play, the top mount bearing were also shot and the offside damper had also been leaking.

So I got myself down to eurocarparts for this lot.

Both top mount bearings where cracked and dry.

The strut made up.

Car waiting for parts.

Nice new stuts fitted.

All done and back on the deck.

I didn't get chance to adjust the tracking, I found the car to still have a mind of its own so the next day I adjusted it to what it should be. After that the car felt a lot more planted and didn't want to shoot off when changing lanes on the motorway.

I still need to adjust the rear but I was thinking of waiting to let the front settle in before adjusting but I think I need to get another axle as there still seems to be a lot of play there in the swing arm. So the plan is to get one soon, recondition and adjust that one.

This weekend I'll be fitting her old sub and amp.

Plans are (in no order);
Source rear axle recondition and fit. Got axle just need to adjust and fit
Fit ICE. Done - but now stolen
Source and fit electric mirrors.
Source and fit spoilers. Done
Refurbish two alloys. Sourced some 180 alloys
Colour code bumpers.
Colour code door hands.
Paint calipers.
Fix air con. Done -replaced condenser
Look in to fitting climate control.

Thanks, yeah this projects nothing major. I'm just going to get the car in a nice condition so it's more enjoyable to drive and a bit more pleasing to the eye.

I can't get over how jacked up the suspension is for the "sporty" diesel version.

It was heart breaking to let her Megane go on ebay for only £650, the car was mint.

a year 2001 with 117k miles :/ how much did you pay for it? as it looks like its needed a fair bit of work on it which most people probably would of broke and got a new car , but tbf its looking realy good Smile

id just be careful how much i spend on it as you might struggle to sell it for a decent price with all those miles on a french car

How much would you like for them and will they fit a pre-plexed car? I understand there two types of connector on the wing mirrors.

I was thinking of getting this cheap new set of ebay, £42 for a set of mirrors, I couldn't believe how cheap they are. No doubt the quality isn't up to much but at that price I can't moan.

I think the car was left with the dodgy bearings for sometime and there is now too much wear in the shaft. Ether the bearings I've put in have failed again or there just flapping about on the worn grove on the shaft. It would be nice if there was a sleeve you could replace but I think I'll have to replace the whole axle because of this.

I'm thinking of replacing that one with one off a SW as it's one or two mm thicker ARB and torsion bars. I'm not going to go down the disc axle route.

Well we were after a 206 Dturbo for quite sometime and there weren't many coming up. We went to see a couple and traveled some distance to see them but they turned out to be a load of sheds.
There was this one in Manchester we went to see, it looked really nice in the pics and the guy offered partx on her Megane. I think he wanted her car and us to pay a grand. When we got there the car was pre warmed up, started it up and the stop light was on continues, the alloys were in really bad condtion, there was oil all over the place under the bonnet and I really don't think it would of got us back home. I wouldn't have had it if he gave me the car and gave me a grand for her car.

Anyway I paid a bit too much because we traveled to look at this one and I thought it wasn't to bad, I'd had enough of looking as well.

Millage wise I didn't think it to bad. I've got the same engine in my 306 and I've done 297k miles in it. I've had that from new and have never had any problems.

I'm not really to worried about the resale value of this car as I know it won't be worth much when we do go to replace it. she just wanted something cheap and had tidy body work.

Oh we paid £1.4k 18 months ago. Yep, definitely too much.

Well either way, I can cut part of the loom so that if the plug is different you can wire it in yourself.

Think my plugs will be different, but I can supply part of the loom for you to be able to wire it in.
