Evening all!
Has anyone seen my fifth gear!?!
For a few hundred miles my 1999 1.6 fifth gear kept popping out when off throttle - then when doing 70 ish on the M5 the gearbox made a whirring/grinding/expensive noise and fifth gear ran off with the circus! 1st to 4th are all present, as is reverse, but 5th has left a gap for the engine to rev into.
What have I done to upset it so much, and how can I tempt it back???
Any ideas gratefully received...

Whats the millage, cheapest option would probably be a gear box from a scrap yard.

Hi - thanks for the quick reply
Its 108 000 miles - car is only worth 300, so if fixable I'd rather try to keep costs down !
Any chance it is something simple?

Nah more than likely gearbox rebuild required. I have one for sale for 50 quid?
