Hey all...yesterday i put down a depoist on a 1.6 hdi quiksilver...after reading mass amounts of horror story's all day (literally) im pretty sure im not going to purchase the car, as even with regular oil changes, and removal of the FAP on this lump doesnt solve a leaky injector seal and the engine poluting itself by storing carbon depoists here and there..till it blows its own turbo by design, only to do so again if a ridicilously hard to complete procedure of turbo replacement, etc is completed (this seems to all be documented from ford/citreon owners on other sites from car's that use same engine)...is this this the same for the DV6 pug version of engine???
So if the DV6 is as much as a piece of crap im reading...how is the DW10 lump better?? is it far less problematic???
What problems does it suffer???
when did the FAP get intergrated into the 206 DW10 (2.0 HDi) engined cars???
I usually service all my own car's with all filters and oil changes myself, is this easy enough with the DW10 unit??
well as said im pretty sure ive kissed goodbye to £100 depoist on the 1.6...but saved myself a very large sum in repair bills and £3k in buying a car that would no doubt die on me. And ive educated myself on modern diesel engines greatly.
stupid amount of questions from the newbie i know but as much info on any DW10 problems would be greatly appreiated!!! while i keep searching both on here and the rest of the web for answers

We went looking at Citroen C4 Picassos yesterday...they were all the 1.6 HDi. I have heard about the the engine being described as being chocolate. Are they all that bad?

All new diesels now carry the FAP/DPF, this was PSA first attempt at it and it shows. It was bought in under EU legislation to meet emission controls. Its just a poor design, and that engine didn't last long. It is the same engine that was used by Ford/Citroen.
The DW10 is a proven workhose! Will easily see at least 150k if well serviced and looked after. Its a simple engine, but with HDi refinement. Better fuel economy than the old 1.9d engine.

I know alot of people have bad experiance with the 1.6hdi gti,Not sure what's the exact problems people have with them, I assumed as it as like an inbetween model of the 1.4 and 2.0 they just never got it right with the 1.6?

The same engine is in the Ford Fiesta TDCi. My sister has a 59-plate Zetec S TDCi and has never had a problem with it.
As with all cars/engines - you only hear about bad ones.
PS: which of your 3 cars will be p/x'ed to make way for the people carrier?

The 207CC is going! No way will that fit a baby seat and a 12 year old in it.

We have a 407 with the 1.6 hdi engine i dont know why everyone slags them off as long as you maintain it with oil changes etc and dont abuse it youll be fine!! Ours is a 07 plate with 98k still going strong!

the depoist was put on a 55 plate with 45k on the clocks...but reading up on engine's problems its a wee bit scary...even with oil change's done every 8k they appear to want to blow turbo's i hate mixed opnions because the 1.6 is great drive (not driven the 2.0 yet!) but trim and spec level,etc pretty sweet on the the quiksilver with rear discs and 20 more bhp. just whole idea is to buy a reliable+eco car and the FAP carrying car's scare me with sensitive engine problems

The later versions of the 1.6HDi aren't as prone to mishaps as they are in the 206. The 206 had the first PSA incarnation of the 1.6HDi with DPF and as a consequence with any first time project from PSA they fooked up big time.
The newer one's still arent completly rid of the faults, but are no where near as problematic as the 206 as long as servicing is kept on top of.

I've covered 8000 miles now since October and I had my DPF removed 3 days after purchase.
Coming up for an oil change next month, but the only problems i've suffered / suffering are from intermittant electrical problems which are not engine associated.
Mine has now covered 75k, it's not using oil, I do slight leak in my radiator but that'll be replaced soon.
Every car is different and every driver is different. It's a nice car with good torque and power if need be and as you say the interior and trim is really much better than the bog standard 206s.
The Ford Focus (old shape before new one) and Mini uses this engine as well. I only know this because I was researching about these engines when my DPF died.
