206 has just been royally spoilt with me fitting a new timing belt and giving it a big service along with a new starter (it wasnt spinning fast enough to start on a cold morning), new brake flexi pipes and rear shoes / slave cylinders and a shiny new fuel tank strap as the old one was swiss cheese.

the car is a 2001 multiplex 2.0 Hdi LX with ABS and aircon 128,000 miles

Its rewarded me by doing the following:

When you start it ,it flashes the headlamps,

the service indicator resets and immediately on starting goes back to where it was.

The trip computer resets and then magically returns to the previous values next time its started

The speedo is not working well. ie 5mph at 30 and previously was 100% accurate according to the sat nav

airbag is showing a fault but it was before and im fairly sure its the deactivate switch for the passenger side air bag

Now I'm sure i did the BSI sleep mode and awake procedure correctly (I am going to brave the snow again tomorrow and do it again!)

The question is have I missed an obvious multi plug or earth with having most of the engine bay in bits? The earth wire that is on the block next to the starter felt like the insulation had gone hard so I'm thinking i need to let some new wire in there???

Any help welcome.

PS I restore and work on old Triumphs day in and day out but diesels and electronics like this are getting a bit past my experience levels.

Right 2 BSI resets this morning and no improvement. Trip and service indicator both reset ok but on starting go back to same previous values. Ie has travelled 540 miles since last fill up and 50 miles to service.

Going to remove battery and tray and go earth wire fishing. I had these items off to remove starter so logic says I could have disturbed it.
Can't see any sort of external suppressor on old or new starter so guess its in the wiring??

Car has never been any bother electrically before!!!!! Aside from a couple of com 2000. Switches under warranty for reasons I was never told - think dealer was scamming pug!

Only things found are tiny bit of corrosion on drivers side headlamp earth point. All others look like new. Copper slipped em all any way.

The earth wire to the engine from the loom is going to be replaced. Took forever to get into the loom.

Had to disconnect ecu and all the other sensors on the engine to give enough slack. The wire has gone hard and brittle but no sign of that green corrosion anywhere. Hopefully this will cure it. Otherwise the only common parts on the system are the BSI or instrument cluster. But surely can't both have failed just for taking the battery off for a week or so??

Took ages to do it as was fitting my van out at same time.
