Quite frankly the 206's suspension is shocking. It's a nice car but I feel every bump and when I go over a pothole or a ramp in the road I feel like I've lost some teeth. Okay maybe a slight exaggeration but you get the point. Even my 1.2 Corsa was so much smoother and I didn't feel half the bumps and whatever on the road. Even the most smoothest road I still feel the wheels go over all the little imperfections and whatever!

I have a completely standard 180, with the exception of some cheap lowering springs that were fitted a few months ago. Didn't really make any difference, arguably a bit bumpier!

Quite a simple question really, what will I need to make this 206 very smooth and to feel hardly anything on the road apart from genuinely big holes and the like. I am willing to spend serious money even if it costs me up to a grand. As long as it's a definitive way to get a super smooth ride where the only things I feel are big hefty potholes instead of everything!

Do I need new wheels? Perhaps smaller wheels, 16 inch?

New dampers?

New suspension kit/coilovers? I've been looking at this Eibach pro kit at £650, will this do the trick? www.demon-tweeks.co.uk...ension-kit

Someone with experience with this sorta stuff just tell me what I need please! I am looking for a vastly significant difference, so I can actually say my 206 GTI 180 is a super smooth ride.

Get small wheels with higher profile tyres, buy a better shock set up like the one you have linked. But at the end of the day you have bought the sportiest 206 model which naturally has a harder ride than other 206's due to the sporter set up. Id definately ditch the cheap springs anyway.

Surely something will help a lot though if you spend the right money.

All I want is a ride that is soft, and that doesn't seem like every imperfection in the road is a pot hole.

This would make the handling worse but if you want a soft ride buy some fk coilovers. i bought some thinking they'd firm up the ride but have done the complete opposite there too soft for me. I'd love to have stiff suspension i think it lets you feel the road better but thats just me. Wanna swap cars? haha

I've got a set of AVO GTZ coilovers for sale if you are interested. You can adjust the ride height and dampening too, so you can set it to please yourself rather than being stuck with a fixed dampening rate.

Cheap springs and standard shocks, that's your problem. I would buy new spring and shocks (standard) if you want a smooth ride. You'll need new shocks as the ones on now will be shot from being lowered. Was the back lowered to match?

This is why I linked up to some expensive coilovers one would assume if they expensive they must be quality but it was said earlier here that they would actually result in a harder ride is that true

The back was lowered yep

Perhaps not as harsh as with the lowering springs but yes, there wasn't really that much difference.

It may have been a little bit softer but still felt most things on the road and I would never in a lifetime say "soft".

The only compromise between good handling and comfort would be dual-rate springs. I suggest you read up on them... or give Keith at Springcoil a call (0114 273 1111). They have my springs on file and are the definitive spring geeks - have used them many times. They can tailor your springs to suit your requirements.

Lowering the car will make everything firmer - particularly at the rear. I don't think you will see a "vastly significant difference" judging by what you are saying. Weigh up the odds and decide if you think spending the extra cash is worth it... or buy your Corsa back...

Not sure if this is right, maybe someone can correct me if not, but installing top end shock absorbers such as B8 dampers might help it become softer, and noticeably so. I'm thinking about this on mine.

Can someone confirm this or am I talking a load of @@@@?

B8's are shortened dampers and will be firmer than OEM.
