Ok I've had the 206 a couple of days now and there's a strange intermittent problem. Now and then the revs go up and down like the throttle is being pressed slightly, they go from 1k to 1.7k and back like someone tapping the throttle.
I've heard the idle control valve can cause this. Now only having the car a couple of days, sorting the insurance, tax, etc, I'm broke for a couple of weeks so haven't got a manual yet.
Could someone please explain where the ICV is (or post a pic) and where to spray the carb cleaner on it?

Yes could well be ICV which is on the throttle body with a 4-wire connector going into it.
There's a how-to in the how-to section on cleaning it.
Could also be Purge canister valve stuck open and a couple of other things but start with the ICV.
It always helps to let people know exact model, year, engine etc.

Yeah that's an awesome guide. I've read a lot of Timon's stuff, the guy really knows what he's talking about. I made a few good friends on the 106 OC who had the same kind of knowledge they taught me enough to keep my old 1.5D running as long as she did but that was a very simple engine, this 206 is a whole new ball game. I grew up with 2 stroke bike engines in the days of reed valves etc long before the powervalves came in so a big old diesel lump was no problem to pick up.
Start throwing ECU's, sensors, ICV's, Lamda sensors, etc at me and I'm back to school all over again. Back in my younger days (and this will show my age if people can remember these bikes) me and my brother had the fastest RD350LC's in our home town by a country mile and they didn't go bang like most did (I had one blown engine but that was my fault for being crazy outside the pub) so yeah I'm very aware of getting the fuel/air mix just right but hey technology moves on and these electronics are all new to me.
I may be an old fart compared to some here but with age comes wisdom and I learned long ago "It's better to ask what you may think to be a silly question and think you look stupid than to rush in blindly and prove you're stupid"

I assume it was when you arrived at the pub and not leaving it.

V I was doing a rolling burn-out as I left the pub after 2 pints of Coke. Do the huge doughnut then thrash the engine, smoke the back tyre, and BANG! For weeks before it'd ended in a monster wheelie but that night it ended in tears. I never drink and drive mate
