For the 5th year running, those greedy pigs in parliament have decided my wage has risen by soooo much they can ask another 5 pound of me for my 1.1 engine, which is well known for its sheer power and its profound ability to kill polar bears while sparing the rest of earths inhabitants.
I thought that inexperienced, unqualified p***k of a chancellor had promised the peasants a road tax freeze in the march budget??? it Now stands at 140 quid a year, for a 206!!!!!

I wouldn't mind the increase in car tax so much if some of the nearby roads weren't in tatters. I know that road tax isn't allocated to road maintenance, but still.

Got so fed up being mugged at the pumps & by the 'road tax' that I sold the RX8 & bought a fiesta Zerec S. £0 'road tax' & an alleged 67mpg.

Surely thats not right? I paid £270 last august, i realise its gone up but i doubt by £38?!

I was a 154 for 6 months on friday so it will be roughly there abouts as you dont save much by doing the year hence why i took 6months

It's down to the exhaust emissions, buy something cleaner if you want cheaper road tax.

good old 1.6 HDi (aka TDCi)
(my sister has the ZS TDCi [59-plate] and has never had any issues)

The cost of road tax on an older car is tiny compared to the depreciation on an newer car...it's such a small cost compared to a year of motoring.

Monetary wise the depreciation on older cars is a lot less than newer cars. In fact the older the car gets the more it slows down, stops, or even reverses. So 'road tax' can easily be one of the biggest costs of motoring compared to depreciation.
For example my old car was worth about £1800 this year, about £100 less than last year. So with 'road tax' at £300 I paid £200 MORE than what I lost in depreciation, hardly 'a small cost' regardless of what you compare it too.
Imagine those percentages on a new car-
Lets say a new car looses £2000 in its first year (most new cars will EASILY loose that), you would have to be paying around £6000 on 'road tax' to be paying pro rata the same as the owner of an older car, so it's not hard to see why people think we're being ripped off.
