So i have been having a clonking noise at low speeds on the drivers side and after taking the wheel off i saw this....

So my question is....Is it the norm to change only one or, should i change both? What sort of price should i pay for a respectable shock or are the e-bay cheap ones good enough? How long to change as in what would a garage sting me for? Or can an amateur do it easy enough?

Its a GTI 138 on a 52

Cheers in advance...

Avoid Ebay rubbish. Try Euro Car Parts. Not that expensive especially with the parts25 discount code.

You need to change both. Also need new nuts and bolts for hub to wishbone and hub to damper.

Need spring compressor and few other tools to do it. New drop links are always a good idea too. I'd consider new top mounts if the car has done a few miles.

2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

Thumb Up The mods would just come on and delete it as it was. They may still do because of the width, but at least you've reduced the height by two thirds.

Can't really add much to Edwards advice about fitting. A good piece of scaffolding can help though.
