What oil have owners of 1.4 8v petrol cars been using, i have been putting 5-40 fully in mine has that's what my local motor factors say is right for the car. With 135000 miles on the clock car runs brilliant but thinking would a slightly thicker oil be better, maybe a 10-40 semi and cheaper. Very Happy

I have used 5w40 and 10w40, both are about right for the car and you wouldn't be going wrong by using either of them

Ok many thanks, I just thought 5-40 fully was a little too high for a engine which goes back some years, but even Halfords list it has 5-40 fully.

5W40 full synthetic is the weapon of choice for me in the TU3.

I have tried various including Total, and decided Shell Helix Ultra is better by a long way.
This is very rare for me because I always go for manufacturers' and OEM stuff whatever they might be.

10w40 semi synthetic for my TU3.

I have 200 litres of Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5w30 fully synthetic at work but I get the feeling its far to thin & exotic for a TU3 lump Laughing

Go-on you know you want to. Smile

But yes also tried that, and too thin at least for soaring summer heat we have over here.

Yes far too thin I agree.

But the 5W40 stuff is perfect really.
Still using Total I take it?

It was made by Total BUT it's branded differently due to where I got it from Whistle...
