I'd be interested in the wiring too. I believe Sandy didn't want to attempt such a job previously on a multiplexed car but with this being a race car I imagine most of the electrics can be changed back to a conventional system.
Great to see some cars getting taken apart anyway.

2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

love the progress so far, lol its taken me months to get close to stripped so far but time is not in my favour, looking very clean under the carpets

what have you removed wiring wise and gow did you loop the heater matrix pipes. this is going down the same route as my car

Thanks, yes it's to me a surprisingly clean car, the only small area of surface rust I can find is where I think water comes through the bonnet vent and collects in there - nothing to worry about though.

Wiring wise I've ripped the lot out Shocked
Sandy is supplying the ecu and wiring loom for the engine only, a lightweight custom made loom will then be made up for all the other stuff which won't be much just lights, wipers etc. It's a race car so things can be kept to a minimum although I do intend to keep it road legal.

I've not yet decided on whether to keep the heater so couldn't comment on bypassing the pipes yet.

Crack on with yours matey, are you planning to race it or just track Cool

Yes Sandy will supply ecu and engine loom only, it's a race car so only needs bare essentials and it's easier to make up a new small loom than try and strip the stuff needed out of the orignal loom - at least thats the plan Confused

I'm surprised more cars don't get stripped to be honest, they seem like great little cars and ideal for trackdays etc Cool

Just track days for me unless I find a group without guidelines as mine us on the cheap within seats and harnesses etc I know nothing about race rules etc

Mine won'tbe on the road and i doubt it will be legal by the time I'm finished. Plan to get an electric heater to stop it steaming up and polycarbonate windows. Might cage it but they weigh nearly 50kg and I've only removed about 105 without heater matrix being weighed out or new seats added. Gottafinish stripping yet and make up subframe and harness mounts. New exhaust and wheels. I aim for 2015

If you had a proper spec cage, seat and harness you wouldn't be a million miles away from being able to race it but that's another story - trackdays are good fun though and you get far more track time for your money than racing. 1 Trackday normally equals 1 season of racing!

I'm not sure those electric heaters are man enough for demisting thats why I may keep the orignal heater but try and lose some weight from it.

Good luck with your build

Hi Guys

Sorry things been really busy as I've been concentrating on selling my Golf race car, looks like that's going this weekend sadly. Still a weight off my mind as I'll have some extra space to work and some money to help cover all the costs.

The car is now completely stripped inside and I'm left doing the tedious jobs like cutting off studs and any brackets that aren't required. Had alook around underneath the car and still thinking about removing the underseal as there's hardly any! Removed the exhaust - boy is that heavy and also the heat shielding for it. Spoke to Sandy last week and he's made a start so the engines stripped and been rebored to suit the new pistons. He's got a couple more engines to get out and then hopes to get stuck into it so that's good.

Got some time booked off this month to complete the rest of what I can before the car heads to the workshops to be built back up - can't come soon enough, been off track way too long!

I will be racing the car in the French Trophy series which is run through the Track Attack club and also some CSCC Tin Tops races. French Trophy I hope is going to become a great series, mainly Clios in it at the mo so will be good to have something different on the grid.

Will probably just use a small electric motorsport type heater, not 100% sure yet tho as need to see what space there is with the cage in.

Cheers
